Bannon says he and Joe Cheshire received a fax on Dec. 22 saying the rape charges against Dave Evans were being dropped. This was a result of a Dec. 21 interview that investigator Linwood Wilson had with Crystal Mangum.
Bannon: “We had received a completely different story than we’d ever heard before.” He also says the report from Nifong on the interview addressed several problems that they had been pointing to for months, such as Reade Seligmann’s airtight alibi. The Mangum interview changed the time frame so that Seligmann’s alibi was all of a sudden no good. Also, her “unequivocal” statement that Dave Evans had a moustache all of a sudden became a “five-o’clock shadow.” And also, all off a sudden, Reade Seligmann became not the person who had assaulted her from the front. Instead, that was Dave Evans. Also, she has always maintained her attackers were Brett, Adam and Matt and all of a sudden Dave Evans was all three. She also couldn’t recall if a penis had been used to penetrate her. This would now comport with the evidence of no sperm found on her. (How convenient!)
Mangum was also referring now, for the first time, to Dave Evans, Collin Finnerty and Reade Seligmann. She had never done this before. They had always been Brett, Adam and Matt. Wilson showed her the 46 player photos again and, miraculously, after months of media coverage, she was able to identify all three accused.
Lane Williamson: Who employs Linwood Wilson. Bannon: Mike Nifong. Not as a law-enforcement officer. “But he does have a badge.”
