Robert Higgs writes here about the rush by many politically-connected businesses to scoop up some of the billions Congress is ready to throw around to “stabilize” our financial system.
It’s telling that faced with this crisis of their own making, our “representatives” first say it’s all due to something called capitalism, which they banished from the US long ago but is still hauled out as a bogeyman when doing so is useful, and then go on a spending spree, showering money on firms they like. A cynic might conclude that these politicians are more about their own power than the interests of the people they represent.
