As you may recall, High Point has lobbied the General Assembly hard (and successfully) for special allocations of revenue to support the furniture market.  Just this year they got $1 million in nonrecurring funds for “Furniture Market Funds”.  

Things must be working out pretty well for them now.  Appears they have an extra $25,000 in their budget to give away to a company that is already located in High Point and I?m guessing has no intent of leaving.  See a late breaking report here.

In our recent series of Regional Briefs (see under County Tax Votes) on whether tax increases were needed, our analysts looked at counties giving away incentives and yet asking the taxpayers for more money. 

Wonder if Guilford County Commissioners will ask their taxpayers to approve new taxes on the ballot in May……
