Back in the mid-90s, the Left was making a big to-do about the book I, Rigoberta Menchu which supposedly showed how awful it was to be a peasant in Central America. (I don’t recall which country, but it doesn’t matter.) Later, it was demonstrated that the book was a fabrication, but Leftists continued to praise it, saying that it was all right to make things up and call them true if it helped to further a righteous cause.
