A family house for patients of adults patients at UNC Hospital in
Chapel Hill will have its ground breaking ceremony next month,
according to an article in The Daily Tar Heel. Officials raised
$6 million to supplement the cost, but that number includes $1 million
in taxpayer funding from the General Assembly.

I have no problem with the house being created, and I think it’s a great idea. My issue
with the project has always been with the $1 million “donation” by the
General Assembly using taxpayer funds. This is something that clearly
had public support in the form of private donations and organizers, in
my opinion, would have been able to raise the money without taxpayer
support.

By the way, the name of the house according to the
paper, the State Employees’ Credit Union Family House after a $2
million donation by the company.
