Supporters and opponents of Amendment One spent 90 minutes Thursday evening in downtown Raleigh offering contrasting arguments about the merits and flaws of the measure dubbed the marriage amendment. The Federalist Society sponsored the event with help from the John Locke Foundation.

Tami Fitzgerald of the N.C. Values Coalition and Ken Klukowski of the Center for Religious Liberty touted the proposed amendment’s benefits. Duke political scientist Michael Munger and American Civil Liberties Union state legal director Katy Parker criticized the proposal.
