WWNC today aired a news story that was an advert for ePASS, an acronym for Electronic Pre-Assessment Screening Service. At one time it was considered rather bold of government to use tax dollars to advertise what used to be called food stamps. Now, people are invited to go online to see for which government services they “may potentially” be eligible. The program even has its very own official symbol.

Afternoon drive host Matt Mittan quoted politicians as insisting the purpose of government was to help people. Caller “Ditch” elaborated. He said the role of government was to get people dependent on handouts so whoever gave out the most could get re-elected. It was a rare, credible political analysis.
