I guess now a person who accepts responsibility can be called ?good for nothing.?
New York City?s Mayor Bloomberg and Chancellor Klein are moving forward on an initiative to provide financial incentives for doing well on standardized tests, and showing up for school.  A student could earn as much as $500 a year.
Economist Roland Fryer has published studies on racial inequality in public schools, and advocates for this program, which uses money raised privately. Fryer is now employed by the city?s Department of Education, and is the ?Chief Equality Officer,? a member of Klein?s senior staff.
The program is part of the Mayor?s wider antipoverty initiative paying cash to influence behavior and reduce poverty. This program is expected to attract more than 2,500 families in Harlem; Brownsville and East New York in Brooklyn; and the Morris Heights and East Tremont sections of the Bronx.
Parents get $25 for attending parent-teacher conferences, more for getting their children to school everyday.
The problem is money can?t buy love and concern. Wonder if Bloomberg thinks you can pay a parent for loving their child?
Meanwhile New York City parents wanting financial assistance to send their children to a private schools are denied that opportunity!
