Two Republicans ? Jackie Warner and Johnny Dawkins ? narrowly lost to Democratic incumbents in N.C. House races in the Fayetteville area. But more than two weeks after the election, they’re not going quietly.

The Fayetteville Observer reports:

Republican Jackie Warner has filed a protest demanding a whole new election for the state House 45 seat held by Democrat Rick Glazier.

Following Friday’s canvass of the ballots, Warner trailed Glazier by 48 votes. A recount is under way today, but Tuesday was the deadline to file election protests.

Warner filed the protest late Tuesday with the Cumberland County Board of Elections. She says:

There were irregularities in the tallies of the number ballots cast in 10 of the district’s 26 precincts.

According to an e-mail from N.C. Republican Party Chairman Tom Fetzer this week, Republican Party lawyers are preparing to challenge the Warner-Glazier election and the race between incumbent Democrat Diane Parfitt and Republican Johnny Dawkins in the House 44 race “because of issues that occurred there, which may have had an impact in the outcome of those elections.”
