In this Washington Times article
Geophysicist Professor David Deming from the University of OK sheds
light (pun intended) on the failings of fluorescent light bulbs, which
have now become the official light bulb of all good American
socialists. Certainly some of what Demming talks about is common
knowledge, but one aspect of the bulbs that Deming focuses on goes
right to the heart of the justification for imposing them on all
Americans, i.e., the supposed ?fact? that they last longer than the
incandescent bulbs, which in a few years will only be purchasable on
black markets. It is this fact that supposedly makes them worth ten
times more than their competitors. Here?s what Deming has to say:

Much of the advertising copy we have been sold on CFLs
contains exaggerated and misleading claims. The fine print is that the
average lifetime is not 10,000 hours, but ?up to? 10,000 hours. In many
applications, the lifetime of a CFL and estimated energy savings are
significantly lower than we have been led to believe. For a compact
fluorescent bulb to achieve the claimed efficiency, it has to be burned
continuously for long periods. If a CFL is left on for only 5-minute
periods, it will burn out just as fast as an incandescent bulb. To
avoid short cycling, the U.S. Energy Star program advises consumers to
leave compact fluorescents on for at least 15 minutes.

I discovered this recently myself. In a fit of irrationality we
purchased some fluorescent bulbs and placed one in a hallway where the
light was frequently turned off and on. This bulb that we expected to
last almost till our retirement died in less than two years. My advise
to everyone is go out and stock up on the non-socialist incandescent
bulbs (maybe we should call them freedom bulbs) now before such
purchases become criminalized.
