Columbus City Councilwoman Margaret Metcalf wants an ordinance to protect dogs from being out in the cold. The gist of the matter is she adores animals so we are emotionally charged to re-elect her. If we turn the brains on, though, we think most people who own dogs have an interest in keeping them, so why would they send them outside to die? One of two people accused of leaving his dogs in the cold has complained to the police about having concerned citizens trespassing on his property.
[Police Chief Chris] Beddingfield said there are some people who will argue that dogs have fur and they’re supposed to be outside and they provided a doghouse so the dogs could go in.
Mayor Eric MacIntyre added that some people will say dogs are like deer.
