I just started reading a book that is supposed to convert advocates of free enterprise into supporters of universal healthcare. It doesn’t help that the author begins by saying other nations do not really have socialized medicine. They might, for example, have doctors who are in private practice but get paid by the government. Perhaps by playing with definitions and pretending that government-funded activities are not government, the author intends the reader to infer that rule by unelected power brokers (insurance companies) isn’t so hot, either. I’ll post more if anything comes of the book.

In the mean time, here’s something we can all agree is a proper role of government. Buncombe County’s web site provides not only pumpkin trivia, but pumpkin carving templates.
