The public believes it was due to mismanagement of funds. Those on the inside believe it was because of their astute watchdog roles in speaking out against government. Government claims it was because of infighting amongst leadership. Regardless, the city and county decided to get rid or URTV (public television). To replace it, they opened a RFP process for media projects.

Two are left in the running. One is the Mountain Xpress. It proposes a central media source that allows everybody the opportunity to post news online. The other, Ponderwell, proposes something similar. The winner will get $120,000 in public funding over the next three years. Concerns that the Mountain Xpress has a reputation for leaning left ought not be a concern.
