Greensboro City Council member Mike Barber on Greensboro’s Strong Cities Strong Communities program, which seems to be constantly evolving:
“I’m going to tell you this one’s a stinker,” Barber said of the grant. “It’s an absolute stinker. First of all, it’s an absolute example of a federal program that stinks.”
Barber added that city staff was in celebration mode after learning they had received the $1 million federal to get the SC2 program up and running. Meanwhile other council members worry that if Greensboro doesn’t utilize the grant, the Department of Commerce “might think Greensboro is rude, get snooty and cut the city out of the competition for the larger grant.”
This taxpayer is willing to take that chance.
