As I wrote in a more detailed post on EnvironmentNC,
global warming alarmists have a bit of a quandary.  Since
their arguments on global warming avoid anything substantive, they have
to strain to find any connection (no matter how indirect) between
global warming optimists and “evil special interests,” like big oil and
coal.  However, this tactic, which in no way addresses the issues,
may be tough as it becomes clear that the alarmists have their own
“evil special interests.”

One of the best examples is General Electric.  Is it any coincidence that NBC, a subsidiary of GE, just had Green Week (featuring the absurd Sunday night football show without any lights)?  I think not.

GE is heavily invested in alternative sources of energy, and in particular wind energy.  From a recent GE press release:
“With a 500% increase in wind turbine production since 2004, GE expects
its wind business revenues to exceed $4 billion this year.”

As states, such as North Carolina, pass laws called renewable portfolio standards,
which mandate that utilities buy electricity from renewable sources,
such as wind, GE has a guaranteed market for inefficient and costly
sources of energy.  Electricity customers pay
the extra costs for the electricity, and the poor, which spend a
greater share of their incomes on energy consumption than other income
groups, pay a disproportionate share of the tax (a regressive tax).

GE likely is pushing
the “green” agenda and excessive regulation so they can make money for
their shareholders at the expense of the public and the poor.
When your electricity bill is much higher and the poor have to choose
between having some heat in the house or a meal, we can thank GE, in
part, for their efforts to profit at the expense of others.  I
hate to see what they mean by bringing bad things to life.
