“Today, California will be a leader in the fight against global warming,” Schwarzenegger told a United Nations conference on the environment.

“I say the debate is over. We know the science, we see the threat and we know the time for action is now,” he said.

Schwarzenegger’s plan calls for reducing the state’s emissions of greenhouse gases to 2000 levels by 2010, 1990 levels by 2020, and 80 percent below 1990 levels by 2050. June 2, 2005 ? press release

The climate-change deniers are rapidly ending up with as much intellectual credibility as creationists and Flat Earthers. Indeed, given that 25,000 people died in Europe in the 2003 heat wave caused by anthropogenic climate change, given that the genocide unfolding in Darfur has been exacerbated by the stresses of climate change, given that Bangladesh may disappear beneath the rising seas in the next century, they are nudging close to having the moral credibility of Holocaust deniers.

They are denying the reality of a force that — unless we change the way we live pretty fast — will kill millions.

City governments tired of waiting for national action on global warming, are taking the initiative to cut greenhouse gas emissions on the local level instead. Last month, sweeping aside the Bush administration?s refusal to cut carbon emissions, more than 140 American cities pledged their cities would meet Kyoto targets and cut emissions by 7 per cent. Toronto is already the ?greenest city in North America? and is taking steps that it hopes will lead to a cut in Canada?s overall emissions. The head of this initiative has also met with mayor, Ken Livingstone, to set up a similar plan in London.

Global climate change is not a myth invented by alarmists; it is a fact backed up by reams of scientific data. Carbon dioxide is at record levels in the atmosphere and the rate of increase is growing, according to data gathered by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration atop Mauna Loa in Hawaii.

But wait!! If it’s all a FACT then how can the following be???

The basis for the Kyoto discussions was a set of studies commissioned, compiled and published by the UN’s International Panel on Climate Change (IPCC). At first glance this scientific foundation plainly shows that significant climate change will occur unless emissions of greenhouse gases are sharply curtailed. On closer examination, the scientific evidence provided in the IPCC material is far from clear. Reputable scientists have expressed critical views about the interpretation of the scientific results and, even more, of the way the material is being used for policy purposes.
