Brian Lehrer (of the Brian Lehrer show) was the moderator for an event at Intelligence Squared about Global Warming. Essentially, there was a motion “Global Warming is NOT a Crisis” and then there was debate.
Micheal Crichton, former Locke speaker Richard Lindzen, and Philip Stott (former professor from Univ. of London) argued in favor of the motion.
Brenda Ekwurzel of the Union of Concerned Scientists (UCS), Gavin Schmidt of the NASA Goddard Institute, and Richard Somerville of the Scripps Institute of Oceanography argued against the motion.
Prior to the debate, the audience was polled to check their feelings on the subject. 57% were against the motion while 30% approved the motion. After the debate, when folks were given all sides, the motion was APPROVED by a 46% to 42% margin in the audience. That’s a huge swing when people are presented both sides.
The debate will be aired here providing that the Global Warming zealots don’t launch a terrorist attack to prevent the debate from being heard.
In case anyone is paying attention, there is also global warming on Mars, Jupiter, Pluto, and Neptune’s moon. Can’t wait to see how CO2 emissions are making their way to those remote locations. Fair minded individuals would look to a common cause (namely the Sun), but that would be logical now wouldn’t it?
