Daniel Allison III, who owned a GM dealership in Sylva, received a letter from GM, which at the time was going bankrupt, telling him his franchise would expire in October. At the invitation of Congressman Heath Shuler, Allison traveled to Washington, DC to plead his case. Then, he failed to be one of the 600 terminated franchises to be reinstated.

Seeing it wasn’t his lot in life to profit off the government, Allison turned to ingenuity and market demand to chart a new course for survival. It looks like he’s going to make it – until the next round of legislation against free-market enterprise.
