Republican legislative leaders and the state Republican Party chairman announced today plans to file legislation this year called the Health Care Protection Act.

Senate Minority Leader Phil Berger, R-Rockingham, House Minority Leader Paul Stam, R-Wake, and GOP chairman Tom Fetzer explained that the bill would block the federal government’s proposal to mandate individual health-insurance coverage. An individual mandate is part of the legislation under debate on Capitol Hill.
