That’s a surprise.

Mayor Pat McCrory says he has not ruled out running for governor next year. Really.

Does that mean Pat is not going to run for mayor this year? Does he plan on letting the local Republican party know anytime soon so they are put up a candidate?

Yet more evidence that 2007 is going to be a very interesting year in Charlotte.

Update: Upon reflection, a couple different things jumped into my head. One, the Mayor is sincerely tired of the job and is thinking of moving on. Two, he realizes that running for mayor against the transit tax repeal as a Republican in a largely Democratic city could narrow his potential pool of support to perhaps unsustainable levels. Three, mindful of Two, he is trying to pressure the local GOP power-structure to uniformly oppose the transit tax repeal or face the prospect of losing him and, presumably, the mayor’s office. Four, he is just looking for a little attention and love.

Just musings here, nothing to back them up. So guess I need a Five — I have no idea what is going on.
