Follow the logic as the N&R reports on a legal settlement in the City of Greensboro’s favor:

A multimillion-dollar windfall may end up saving city’s water users, but they might have to wait until next year to see that happens.

Instead of using a $16.3 million legal settlement to lower water and sewer rates, the city manager’s office wants to spend the money on current debt and construction projects.

That could save water users from planned rate increases as soon as next year, according to the city staff.

Cutting back the rates now would mean the rates would go up again next July, said Water Resources Director Allan Williams.

For starters, this is why we hound citizens to vote ‘no’ for bonds. And does anyone want to bet water rates will go up next year anyway?
