Mecklenburg very own Warsaw Pact had a secret meeting in Davidson today to stumble further down the road to spending $80 million or so public dollars on an old, beat-up cable TV franchise. No wonder they want to keep the details secret, they’d look like fools in harsh sunlight.

You can bet the central planners discussed what they think to be important — the price they would pay for the franchise and how long they would hold it before trying to “flip” it at big profit. Well, there are at least two flawed premises at work there: 1) That Adelphia’s old plant is actually worth much of anything, considering the upgrades the system requires and 2) That the arm of the Tennessee Valley Authority that would manage the system has any clue how to do that for any length of time.

An absolute disaster in the making.
