In the latest ?you must be kidding? news, the city of Greensboro announced today that it has agreed to buy the Coliseum Inn and Canada Dry buildings for $5.3 million.  This adds another 10 acres around their city owned (and tax payer funded) coliseum complex.

?No definite plans are in place for the buildings? use, but city officials are busy talking about making something happen.?

It’s just astounding how easy it has become for government officiales to spend someone else’s money.

BTW: This is the same coliseum that used to house a minor league hockey team, Greensboro Generals that CJ reporter Michael Lowrey warned us about in March 2004.  Lowrey reported again in September 2004 that the team had folded and cost the taxpayers of Greensboro $376,000.

As JLF has pointed out before, coliseums and civic centers have proven to be nothing but money pits funded by taxpayers. It?s happened in Wilmington and Asheville and recently in Raleigh.  And now it looks like Greensboro taxpayers are pouring even more money into their coliseum.  Talk about the pits!
