Not may as in “might,” but may as in given permission by the state to do so. Inside Scoop reports:

Earlier this year, there was much ado about who told what to whom over $19 million in federal bond capacity available for projects in Greensboro.

Now the state has confirmed that the advice the city staff – and specifically Assistant City Manager Andy Scott – gave to the City Council in December was accurate.

If the City Council wants to, they can go ahead and revisit the issue of the bonds and the proposed downtown luxury hotel. Assuming they want to.

I can’t see how this is good for the private hoteliers’ lawsuit that Guilford County attorney Mark Payne has asked a judge to dismiss based on the very argument that both city and county government didn’t actually approve the project back in December, only the process.

Indications are the council’s gonna just let it slide. Me, too —– there’s a good chance this deal will never go down. I just beg the City Council to learn from this experience.
