We knew this was coming, but Guilford County Manager Brenda Fox officially presented a 6.32 cent tax hike during last night’s commissioners’ meeting.

Jones’ budget also comes with spending cuts, which is not the way it’s supposed to be. Even stranger is Fox’s apocalyptic vision:

“I think the county will continue to experience negative effects of the economic decline in future budget years,” Fox said. “I think the state will continue to balance their budget on our backs. I think as the recovery occurs — and I think it will — we’re going to lag behind that.”

I’ve noted talk out there in the blogosphere about how if you want nice things, you have to pay for them. Unfortunately, Guilford County didn’t pay for them, they put them on the credit card and now the bill is due. And if you believe Brenda Fox —-mind you, her credibility is questionable —– the county is going to suffer for years.

Increased taxes, reduced services —– that’s not good for economic development.
