Guilford County commissioners go with the construction manager at risk method for building the new $114 million jail financed with voter-approved bond money.

If you remember, CM at-risk is the method Guilford County Schools is using for many of its bigger projects funded with bond money. Sources tell me there’s no evidence that CM at risk reduces costs, particularly since the construction manager has more leeway to go with a subcontractor that doesn’t offer the lowest bid.

Keep in mind that there are already concerns that the new jail is going to run over budget.
