Take a close look at what is unfolding in Guilford County. Then look and see what is not happening in Mecklenburg.

Up I-85 way they are pulling back debt and admitting that revenue is under a serious squeeze. Meck county commission chair Jennifer Roberts is just continuing with the happy talk that is going to lead straight to a double-digit property tax increase.

You see, the county has been spinning the bond ratings agencies for years and maybe, just maybe they are getting wise to the Meck shell game. But you watch, the need for a massive tax hike will be couched in the supposed “need to preserve our AAA credit rating.”

Hope I am wrong.
