Don’t look now, but some Guilford County commissioners want to put a quarter-cent sales tax hike to yet another a vote:

County voters have knocked the idea down twice before at the polls, but there’s a renewed feeling among some commissioners that those defeats were largely a result of the fact that the Guilford County Board of Commissioners, and other county officials, didn’t do a good enough job of explaining the benefits of a sales tax increase to the voters.

Commissioner Steve Arnold —who won’t be around long after the November election —- warns about the “sales pitch going around among some Guilford County commissioners that it would be a tool to help bring down property taxes,” but commissioners “would no doubt just use the new revenue for new spending rather than reduce property taxes.”

They wouldn’t do that, would they?
