I’m not a “West Wing” fan, but I have to admit I was curious about the presidential debate scheduled last night between characters played by Alan Alda (as a Republican, nyuk-nyuk) and Jimmy Smits, which was staged live. I’ve got it recorded but haven’t watched the whole thing yet.
But the Associated Press reported this exchange between the two:
A bit later, Santos (Smits’s character) promised a million jobs would be created in his first term.
“How many jobs will you create?” (the moderator) asked Vinick (Alda).
“None,” he replied. “Entrepreneurs create jobs. Business creates jobs. The president’s job is to get out of the way.”
Pretty sad that a fictional Republican played by Hawkeye can deliver a better answer on job creation than any real GOP official I’ve heard.
