Interesting Guarino thread on the “subtle arrogance” shown by Greensboro City Council candidates Jim Kee and Joel Landau after last night’s primary. Honestly, I didn’t see it as subtle arrogance as much as regular campaign b.s.
Which is isn’t to say we shouldn’t pay close attention to media coverage of Laundau’s District 4 race against Mary Rakestraw, especially in Yes!Weekly, since they’re obviously in love with the man.
And here’s what we know about Jim Kee:
Kee worked for US Airways and as a pharmaceutical sales rep before starting his current career as a developer. He is currently building a mixed-use and mixed-income development in the Kings Forest neighborhood, not far from the White Street Landfill, and does not want to see the landfill reopened. But Kee said he didn’t have any problems listening to people’s ideas about how new technology could be used to make the landfill into “an economic producer.”
So he has development interests and is seeking the ability to directly protect those interests with a vote on the City Council. Except his interests are in east Greensboro and his vote would be to keep the White Street landfill closed. Which somehow might make it different, at least in the eyes of some local media.
