Even though I’m an Independence High alum, I do not think it is great news that star West Charlotte running back Rod Chisholm is moving to play for the Independence football dynasty.
For one, as magnificently wonderful as sports are, they should not be all-consuming. Second, provided Chisholm took care of his academics, some university was going to give him a full scholarship to play football for them — even had he stayed at West Charlotte. And third, this deepens the impression that there is something very wrong at West Charlotte. Perhaps it is just that, an impression. But there is no doubt that Lion school spirit takes a hit as Chisholm departs.
We’ll see what else emerges.
