Rick Henderson attempts to unwind the mutually exclusive spin on whether or not Ric Killian’s bid to kill federal high-speed rail money is itself alive or dead. Bottomline — and this is my spin — no one knows. Which makes the heds N.C. GOP leaders say yes to rail money and GOP bid to turn down rail funds falls short at least premature, if not misleading.

However.

Although I think those stories erred badly in not tracking down Killian for his take on the technical status of his legislation before pronouncing it dead, the political reality — judging from the attitude of the construction and engineering lobbies who probably would take Osama bin Laden rail funds at this late date in the Great Recession — is that even if Killian’s ban on federal dollars gets out of the House, it will die in the state Senate.

If that does happen, we’ll know exactly who to blame — whether or not it is accurately reported by reporters unfamiliar with the GOP leadership and personalities.
