No surprise, the Winston-Salem Journal endorses Kay Hagan:
Her opponents incorrectly chide her as too liberal. During her state Senate tenure, Hagan has been considered pro-business and moderate. The budgets she helped write were all balanced and responsible. She will continue to follow that course in Washington.
Hagan’s election would give our state balanced representation in the Senate: one Democrat in what will likely be a Democratic-controlled chamber, and one Republican, incumbent Richard Burr. North Carolina needs that.
Funny, the N&R used the theme of balanced representation in its Hagan endorsement. Somehow I don’t think either paper would be so worried about balanced representation if there were two Democrats in the Senate. As for Hagan’s “balanced and responsible” budgets, how come the General Assembly had to borrow so much money during her tenure as budget writer, including $50+ million for the Millennium Campus?
Meanwhile, the Journal can’t in good conscience endorse District 5 Democratic candidate Roy Carter, writing “he does not create enough enthusiasm with us to earn our endorsement.” But God forbid they’d endorse Virginia Foxx.
