Old Western North Carolinian jokes about Floridians who drive too slowly are too old to be funny anymore. Therefore, the Haywood County Tourism Development Authority is recharging them by closing two tourism centers.

“Everybody is texting except the older generation. Those blind old fogeys will have to go slower and even more erratically now that they can’t stop for maps and directions,” said one figment of the imagination added for news story cadence.

“Once texting is outlawed, the kids will be driving in circles, too; only faster,” added a fictitious authority.

Closing the centers will loosen up $40,000 in the TDA’s budget, which will be used for marketing.

“That will bring even more people to our area to bumble around in the maelstrom,” said a third made-up character.
