After some media speculation about an unprecedented vote to accept the Senate’s proposed budget plan in its entirety, the state House voted instead this evening to reject the Senate budget.

Now the House and Senate will set up a conference committee to negotiate budget differences.

The House held no debate on the vote. Chief House budget writer Mickey Michaux, D-Durham, moved to cut off any discussion of the motion “not to concur” with the Senate plan. His colleagues voted along party lines to support Michaux’s efforts.
