The Polk County Board of Commissioners voted to give another $15,000 to Robert Williamson of Strategic Work Systems, Inc. Williamson is charged with coming up with the county’s economic development plan.

What if I said I liked the idea. I am reminded of a math class in college. Back then, it seemed I was the only English-speaking kid to take 400-level math classes; but for this particular weed-out course, there were four of us who sat in a pack. One, Daniel, was more of a smart alec than I. One time, the teacher apologized – in broken English, of course – for not returning out tests a second day. To which Daniel told our merry band, “Yeah! I keep coming up with negative scores.”

And so, maybe that is why Mr. Williamson needs more time or resources. Maybe he is being honest and the formulas just aren’t working. Maybe he is on to something, and maybe, just maybe, he will be the one to jettison this whole wad of garbage about people playing chess with other people being good for the economy.

Fifteen, fifteen, do I hear thirty?
