High Point Mayor Bernita Sims resigned yesterday shortly before pleading guilty to passing a worthless check.
Sims wrote in her resignation letter:
“As a result of recent events in my personal life, I am resigning as Mayor of the City of High Point effective immediately,” she wrote in her resignation letter. “Thank you for allowing me to serve; it was an honor to be part of the decision making process for the great city of High Point.”
City Councilman Jim Davis, who serves as mayor pro tem, will assume the duties of mayor until council chooses one of its members to serve the balance of Sims’ term.
Sims, elected mayor in 2012, was not seeking re-election this November.
Sims declined to comment following the court proceedings.
