Back from a long news break . . .

Candidates are going to give second opening statements.

Shuler: Kudos and warm and fuzzies. It has been an honor to serve this district, a destination of world travelers. They love the creeks and streams. Some decide to stay because of the people. The people of the mountains must be remembered when one votes in DC. Shuler has been able to do that. He is independent as evidenced by his voting record. He intends to do what is right. He grew up in Bryson City, and he has returned to WNC to raise his family. He will continue to fight.

Miller: He has lived in WNC all his life and runs a 96-year-old family business. It’s a big, beautiful district. Each county has unique concerns and needs. I want to serve. Family, friends, veterans, and others wanted him to run. Miller’s business was successful through the recession because they planned ahead. They saw it coming and were careful with every penny. There is not so much margin for error these days as there used to be.
