If the folks at NC WARN can convince the N.C. Utilities Commission, North Carolina utilities won’t be able to build nuclear plants or coal plants. If that’s the case, it will be time to buy a bike and leave for work extra early.

From the Triangle Business Journal:

Rather, NC WARN says, Raleigh-based Progress Energy (NYSE: PGN) and Charlotte-based Duke Energy (NYSE: DUK) could replace the need for the plants with “modest increases” in energy efficiency, co-generation and renewable power.

No doubt these alternative sources would be implemented via more government mandate and regulations. That approach increases costs, which someone has to pay. Care to guess who that will be? That’s the last thing we need.
