The old saying goes ‘if something’s too good to be true, it probably is.’ That’s certainly the case with the proposed downtown Greensboro ice rink, as we now learn the plan would be for the city to purchase the rink at the conclusion of the 2010-2011 season —which, by the way,—- is next year. Parks and Rec Director Greg Jackson says rinks in Raleigh and Charlotte generate revenues of $100,000 annually.

Let’s look at this for a moment. An ‘organizer’ —-from High Point, no less —–pitches an idea to gullible groups like Downtown Greensboro, gets “sponsors” to put up the money and then sells out to the city, where taxpayers foot the bill the rest of the way. An equally gullible mainstream media provides free PR the whole time.

Man, I need to get into that business.
