I’ve never ridden a motorcycle and if I ever do, I will wear a helmet. I think it’s the prudent thing to do. But that doesn’t mean government should force me to wear one – as long as I’m willing to accept responsibility for what could happen to me. Insurance companies should determine the risk level and price insurance to reflect the risk.

“I always wore a helmet to protect myself,” said Rep. Rodney Moore, a Charlotte Democrat who said he hasn’t driven a motorcycle in a few years. “But when you look at a person’s rights, they have a right to decide whether they want to wear a helmet or not. They should be able to make a reasonable decision.”

Indeed.
