One last word on the Hagan-Neal debate. Sorry it’s taking a while, but if you lose you’re signal, you’re screwed. And though they both made gaffes, it was on the whole a fairly substantive debate that required careful listening.

The most interesting exchange occured during the closing statements, when Neal reminded Hagan that “she’s not running against Elizabeth Dole” and that “primaries aren’t coronations,” to which Hagan tersely replied, “I’m running against Elizabeth Dole. Thank you.”

Neal definitely came off as the more relaxed speaker. Hagan did well, but she came off as determined but rigid, making sure to regularly work in work the “Washington is broken” talking points. If Hagan’s going after Dole in the primary, I can’t imagine how much she’ll hold she’ll hold back in general election, especially considering her relationship with the wretched Bush. But Dole will have it coming in that case, right?
