With all the corruption in North Carolina involving powerful Democrats, you’d think the state’s party would see some slippage in party I.D. numbers. But not so:

North Carolina witnessed some of the most significant slippage in the percent of voters who self-identify as Republicans. So point one is this: The GOP generic environment in the state has been sinking for the past couple of years.

When you see something as counter-intuitive as this, you have to wonder if the state’s news media bear some blame (or would they call it credit?).
