Stay with me here. Independence Air, the low-fare alternative to US Airways, has cut its flights to Charlotte by more than half, from eight a day to just three. This is bad news for Charlotte’s NASCAR Hall of Fame bid.
As I’ve argued before, Charlotte’s high air-fares will, I believe, prod very dollar-aware NASCAR and the France family to look elsewhere for their HoF site. If NASCAR fans are left penniless just by flying into town, that will not translate into big spending at the NASCAR attraction.
Indy Air was starting to knock Charlotte fares down out of the stratosphere, but now that trend has been halted.
Stay tuned.
