Here’s an intriguing article about governance in Cherokee. Chief Justice Bill Boyum had complaints about being moved on the tribal organizational chart below Chief Patrick Lambert. (Note: Patrick Lambert is not the same person as Lumpy Lambert, who runs the big casino in Cherokee.) Boyum, who is sharper than most people I encounter in government situations, argues the rearrangement makes him irrelevant. Others argue the tribe does not enjoy three branches of government like the United States is supposed to.
