Call me skeptical about the decision in Scotland to release Lockerbie bomber Abdelbaset Ali Mohmed Al Megrahi on compassionate grounds. The 57-year-old terrorist is being released ostensibly because Scottish officials feel sympathy for the man who helped kill 243 men, women and children, many of them Americans, because he has prostate cancer. Boo hoo.

How long will it be before we learn that terrorists have communicated to Scotland that it will suffer dire consequences if it doesn’t release this animal, and that Scottish officials blinked? To me, nothing else can explain the sudden touchy-feely sympathy for a madman.

UPDATE: Justice Secretary Kenny MacAskill, who made this boneheaded decision, has already acknowledged that Al Megrahi could live longer than that, but that he trusted the “medical experts” who advised him. Considering how much Great Britain has catered to Muslims over shari’a law and other cultural surrenders, it wouldn’t surprise me to find out that Al Megrahi demanded Muslim docs and the authorities acceded to his demands.
