While I appreciate that UNC Chapel Hill students gathered to reject the hate-filled tactics of the students who prevented former Colorado congressman Tom Tancredo from speaking earlier this week, I’m frustrated and troubled by language that tip-toes around the issue.

First, from Student Body President Jasmin Jones in the Daily Tar Heel (emphasis is mine):

“UNC has a reputation for being a friendly and loving place,” Jones said. “What we witnessed this week was miscommunication.”

Then this from Alicia Soto, president of the Carolina Hispanic Association (emphasis is mine):

“We wanted to respond in an academic way, but it did not happen because people were all working for the same goal using different techniques,” she said.

Ladies, stop with the luke warm, politically correct words. This was censorship – not “miscommunication” or “different techniques.”
