I thought my eyes were playing trricks on me when I read in yesterday’s N&R that Guilford County Commissioner Steve Arnold was in favor of the quarter-cent sales tax. I knew Arnold supported the Eastern Guilford bond considering the fact that the school burned down a year and a half ago. But it’s so unlike him to support any type of tax increase.

But today’s N&R reports that Arnold actually opposes the tax increase, saying if citizens would “rather pay a sales tax rather than a property-tax increase, it needs to have some positive, long-term impact.”

Again, maybe it’s me, but someone please explain the logic of voting to raise the sales tax to pay down the debt on $457 million in school bonds that are on the same ballot.
