Kudos to Wake County Commissioner Joe Bryan, who proposes to cut commissioner salaries by 10 percent as a show of leadership during tough economic times for the county. The response from his colleagues? From the News & Observer:
The board’s three Republicans supported the suggestion, while the four Democrats raised concerns. The strongest voice against the measure was Vice Chairwoman Lindy Brown, who said the meager salary she collects from being an elected official is her only source of income.
Wake commissioners are paid $18,405 a year, while the board chairman makes $21,585.
“It’s not a huge amount, but it’s symbolic to the taxpayers,” Bryan said of his pay cut proposal.
