Todd and Sarah Palin have refused an invitation to appear on the David Letterman Show following raunchy and despicable jokes by Letterman about the Palins’ 14-year-old daughter, Willow.
Letterman’s “apology” for the off-color jokes was Clinton-esque: “Were the jokes in questionable taste? Of course they were. Do I regret having told them? Well, I think probably I do.” No need for the sackcloth and ashes, I guess.
As I’ve said before, I am no particular fan of Sarah Palin, but there’s no doubt that she was the favorite punching bag of the MSM during the ’08 presidential race. If Letterman had targeted just about any other political figure, the outrage would be far more strident.
Besides that, he forgot the cardinal rule of political commentary — lay off the kids, especially when they’ve done nothing to warrant the criticism. Unless, of course, you want to be known as a bottom feeder.
